MetaLab: Simple is not always normal
About MetaLab:
"We are an interface design agency
We have been in business since 2006
We work from two different countries
We strive for pixel-level perfection
We believe simple is beautiful"
This was taken from MetaLab's About Us page. If you didn't know, MetaLab created Tumblr (here's my Tumblelog). You can also check out their other projects on their home page.
I looked at their projects on their home page and I like the UI of their projects. Simple. Beautiful. I wish I could design pages like that. Why couldn't I? I strive to keep pages simple and minimalist but they look so ...
... ordinary.
And then it hit me. Took me a while to realize but at least I did. Simple isn't always normal. Nor ordinary. If I were to put it in OOP, there's an object and simplicity is one attribute and uniqueness and usability are different separate attributes. Like RGB. Or CMYK. They're not on the same slider control but they're separate.
With this new thing in my head, I will remake the team website in this principle: simple, unique, usable and drop dead gorgeous. Thanks MetaLab for the inspiration.
