Kapistahan sa Sinulog

Viva!
When dancers with long skirts spin, it is amusing how their costumes look. :)
They'll smile for you while they dance when you aim a camera at them. What a sport.
Oogah!
Tired?
Some beautiful people on a celebrity float.
Viva Senyor Sto. Niño!
Viva!
I didn't notice the other one was frowning. Still makes a good pic.
I loved this part of their dance: the backup dancers kneeled in praise of the image and chanted.
No smiles for me?
Check out the guy in the back.
Kapistahan sa Sinulog
Beautiful and colorful.
This is how you turn a street into a grassfield in mere seconds.
Under that normal looking off-white Filipiniana is a pink surprise!
Sinulog Festival queen.
The most unique head-dress I've seen.
Dancers doing what they do best: dancing naturally with spirit to the Sinulog beat.

The  Sinulog Festival.

Two days ago, I posted photos that I took during the solemn procession and like I promised, here are the photos from the festival that happened the day after the procession.

After several years since early college, this is the first time I've seen the parade again. For the past years, we have been putting up a feast on Sinulog so we couldn't leave the house. We can't leave the guests at home, can we? I was so happy we weren't holding a feast at home this year, I even joined the Sinulog 2010 photo contest. Some of the photos I uploaded here are part of the entries I submitted. Enjoy the colors, or lack thereof.

There's a funny thing about photographers, especially if you don't know each other or you're not in the same group (I shot alone). It might because of the competition but when you come across another photographer, they check each other's gear out trying not to directly look at it. It's like the gear is the photographer's girl and we're checking each other's chic out then act smug if what you own is better, sexier, more powerful. Noticed this more than once during the shoot, while walking up and down Mango Avenue. Funny.

This is the first time I ever shot in RAW mode. Not for me. Post processing RAW files makes my laptop crawl and they take up so much space. I don't really need all that additional information. Unfortunately, the contest rules required us to send the RAW soft copies along with the printed photos.

I never got any notification from the committee. Oh, well. Gotta do better next time.
